CC SUNCHILD
About CC Sunchild
CC Sunchild is an American composer, producer, pianist, and vocalist whose journey flows like a tapestry, weaving in global collaborations with iconic artists like Patti LaBelle, Elton John, Bruce Hornsby, India Arie, Bobby McFerrin, Lil Durk, Ruben Studdard, Raphael Saadiq, and Caron Wheeler. Having studied Music Composition at Spelman College, Berklee College of Music, and Georgia State University, she draws on jazz, classical, gospel, and world music, to create soundscapes that span genres and traditions with effortless grace.
Her path has taken her across borders and disciplines, from an artist residency at the Crowne Plaza in Suzhou, China, to studying Gamelan with Nyoman Warsa in Bali. She has also carried her sound into film, appearing in productions such as Madea’s Witness Protection, The Detour, Hap & Leonard, Holidate, Star, and The Hate U Give. Recently, she played the music of Aretha Franklin in Twentieth Century Fox’s docuseries Genius: Aretha, starring Cynthia Erivo.
CC’s story is one of transformation. Navigating recent health challenges, she entered a chrysalis, emerging with a fresh perspective and an eagerness to dive into a new artistic exploration. This metamorphosis has sparked The Book of Rooms, a multimedia project that blends movement, video, projection, visual art, prose, and virtual reality into a stage production. Composed as a journey through the “rooms” of her inner world, The Book of Rooms draws on musings, journal entries, and discoveries from one of the most challenging periods of her life. Each “room” captures the sounds, textures, colors, and movements of the phases she has traversed, painting a vivid portrait of rebirth and evolution.
As ever, her artistry is expansive. Her debut album, Air, demonstrates her versatility as a producer, composer, and arranger, while her recent work includes scoring a new musical presented by True Colors Theatre in Atlanta and contributing to an artist residency with M3, where she mentors creatives and pioneers new models of collaboration and mentorship. CC Sunchild continues to push boundaries, inviting audiences into the depths of her musical world with each new project.
